Neverman
Butch Vig used some rented vintage amps to layer and thicken the guitar tones on Nevermind.
One was a rare 1963 Fender Bassman amp. It has a fat, throaty mid/high gain sound with dynamics and cut.
Neverman is a Jfet Bassman amp emulator based on another well loved classic "57" pedal design from Indiana. it can be used as a distortion pedal, a preamp, or even DI. It is extremely versatile. It is very touch sensitive and was dialed in for maximum gain.
"Unusual" EQ settings should not be avoided. For example for a FLAT response set both EQ to minimum, for the flavor but not the EQ. Use your ears not your eyes. the tone controls drive the gain section as well so experiment.
I prefer to mix these mid gain tones with another track of higher gain DS-1 tones as on the recording, but there are no rules. It's about layers.
9-18v DC center negative maximum.
True Bypass
(Internal bias pots should NOT ever be tweaked.)
